What you need to get started…🧶
When I first started crocheting I had no idea what I would need to get started, so I signed up to a magazine where you learn to crochet each week and the hooks and accessories came with the subscription. I think this definitely helped me with the confidence to then be able to go choose my own crochet kit! So what do you actually need as an absolute beginner? What are the must haves that you will use every single day?
First up……a good set of hooks!
I always find that hooks with soft grip handles are much more comfortable to crochet with, rather than metal hooks.
The set in the picture below was the first set I ever brought and comes with lots of other handy accessories which is an added bonus!

Once I started to crochet a bit more I decided to buy myself a ‘posh’ set of crochet hooks as a treat!
I spent hours and hours researching which hooks were best and reading pages of reviews and recommendations. I finally settled on my Tulip Etimo hooks.
These hooks are the best I have ever used and I would recommend them to everyone!

Another must have is a good pair of sharp scissors or ‘snips.’ The Tulip Etimo set above comes with its own scissors. Alternatively, you can purchase a small pair of sewing scissors separately.
A tape measure is a really important addition to your crochet set. You will need this to measure the tension of the piece you are working on and if you are making an amigurumi, you may need the tape measure to measure the different parts and where to sew them!
Stitch markers are an absolute must have! These help with counting how many stitches you have and can also mark the start of rounds when working in the round. The sets above both come with their own stitch markers, and again, stitch markers can also be brought separately quite cheaply.

Finally, darning needles are something you will use all the time. They are thicker than sewing needles and are using to sew in the ends of your yarn once you have finished a project. Again, both sets above come with darning needles but you can also purchase these separately as well!
Now over to you to get started!
